Wal-Mart Associates
Cell Phone Discount
30th-Mar-2007 08:46 pm
I bought a new cell phone (MotoRAZR V3r through Cingular) from the Connection Center today, and I was told that Wal-Mart associates get a discount on the monthly bill. But the associate working there didn't know how much it was or how to go about getting it. Anyone here know?

Go to the wal-mart benefits webpage http://www.walmartbenefits.com

Login or sign up- which ever one you need to do.

Click on my Discounts- right hand side of page

Then click on the Cingular link in the get connected, there should be instructions on it there.

Hmm, I tried that...the site said my information wasn't found in the WalMart database or something. And I'm inputting the correct date of birth, hire month/year, and social security number. I wonder if it's because I'm a fairly new hire (just started last week Friday).

I'll have to ask Personnel sometime.

Might be. I've been at old wally-world for awhile now and I don't remember how long it was after I started when I signed up for the website.

I believe you can check it on the wire at your store. Everyone should be able to sign on to that, if not-I'm sure your personnel manager can help you. There are quite a few companies that offer discounts. Although, I don't know how this falls into "kick backs" and all that. I know the company is against it and its all over the handbook but this is posted on our site so I'm sure sure what the deal is on it. I'm sure it's fine though. Go for it if you are a Cingular or T-Mobile customer. There are a lot of good discounts available. Check them out... and welcome to the company!

my husband and i just got the Razr through t-mobile at his wal-mart. We were told the discount is 15%.

Ooh, even better than the assumed 10%. Thanks!

Yep! I'm with T-Mobile and I get 15%. Pretty sad when a cell phone provider will give you more of a discount than your employer will, yeah?

I have been a Walmart associate for 4 1/2 years and just renewed my contract with cingular. sure wish I would have known about the discount earlier.

by the way I just signed up for it and the discount with cingular is only 8%

Employees also get 8% discount through Verizon.. it's not much, but it adds up.

My question would be: do I have to get the Cingular contract through the connection center in order to get the discount, or could I go to the Cingular store down the road from Walmart and get a phone/contract there and then still get the discount?

I followed the directions mentioned earlier and signed up for the discount online. It didn't matter where I got the phone they just want your account number with it's associated phone number(s), hire date, birthdate and I think SS# (to verify it is actually your account).

Call customer care for the corresponding companies to set it up. I did with mine on T-mobile.

When I worked at Wal-Mart before I got pregnant, I was getting a 15% on my sprint phone, I got the information through the mail and I called the number it said, don't ask me the number. God, that's been forever ago.

Actually, it doesn't matter where you get the phone. However, we have found that in some instances, the deposit also gets reduced by the discount card at the register (especially with T-Mobile T-class $75 on site activation fees).

You have to make arrangements for the discount afterwards though, so it doesn't matter where you get the phone.
