Wal-Mart Associates
Walmart vacation policy
13th-Jun-2010 02:47 am
I was wondering if Walmart as a company has a vacation policy or is it left up to individual stores.  I work at a Walmart and only two associates are allowed vacation at a time one on the GM side and one on the grocery side. So I was wondering if all stores follow the same policy.

How many at a time is left up to the Store. I guess it depends on the store size and busy it is. They have to be letting more than one /side/week off though- inless there is only 100 associates in your store. Now, two/area sounds reasonable - like if you are overnight. They can't short themselves in the areas and run the business.

It's decided on a store level. Assistant managers should be the one approving or denying vacations on a weekly basis.

We've had four department managers out in a single week on vacation before.

That is an insane policy to have. I understand them not wanting people to all be off in one area, but that kind of vacation schedule simply isn't possible in most stores, There's just too many associates. 2 per week. That would mean your store could only have 104 associates (and there are weeks during the year, around christmas and inventory when they won't do vacations at all, so there's even less than 52 weeks in which to have a vacation. Unless you work in a ridiculously small store that idea simply isn't realistic.

Put in for your vacation whenever you want it because they just told you a bunch of BS.

just because you "Put in for your vacation whenever you want it" does not mean that it will be approved ;)

like someone else said, it is based on the business needs of the store

communicate with your assistant

Yeah, it may not be approved, that's true.

The only policy they have for all stores is not getting vacations during storewide inventory. But that doesn't include the fresh side as they do inventory every month.

That policy I have never heard at my store. The only way to find out is to put it in and see what happens. Every store makes up their own "policies" and claims it's what all of them do.

This is a supercenter where I work overnights, I think thats why their is so many that call in because that is the only way to get anytime off.

There is the official policy (which is on the wire) which doesn't say much. Otherwise it's something like 10% of a SWAS at a time - my (admin) manager was complaining (and mentioned that) because our DSD receiver and our daytime claims person are both on vacation on the same week - (DSD receiver is under backroom manager while DSD processor is under admin) - I'm the backup for directs but my primary is claims (part time, I'm the weekend gal). We got stuck training a new person for directs. haha.

But yeah, it does seem to vary by store from what I know.
